Teltonika FMB920 vs FMB140 vs FMC150: Which GPS Tracker for Your Fleet?

Rapport installs Teltonika hardware on almost every fleet it tracks, and three models account for most of it. They are not good, better, best — they answer different questions. The figures below come from Teltonika’s own datasheets; the recommendations come from installing them in Doha traffic and summer heat.

FMB920 — the small one

The FMB920 is a 79 × 43 × 12 mm, 54-gram tracker with quad-band 2G, a full GNSS set (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou), Bluetooth 4.0 LE and a 170 mAh backup battery. It has one digital input, one digital output and one analogue input, runs on 6–30 V and is rated IP54. That is enough for live location, trip history, ignition on/off, geofences, over-speed alerts, an immobiliser relay on the output, and towing or crash detection from the accelerometer. It fits behind a dashboard in minutes and is the right choice when the question is simply “where are the cars and are they being driven sensibly” — pool cars, sales vehicles, rental fleets, pickups.

FMB140 — the one that reads the vehicle

The FMB140 is a 2G tracker with a CAN adapter built in (the LV-CAN200 / ALL-CAN300 functionality Teltonika otherwise sells as a separate box). On a supported vehicle it reads dashboard fuel level, total fuel consumption, wheel speed, driven distance, engine RPM and accelerator-pedal position straight from the vehicle’s electronics — no fuel sensor to fit, no tank to drill. It carries three digital inputs, two digital outputs, two analogue inputs and a 1-Wire bus for an iButton driver-ID reader or temperature probes, plus the same GNSS, Bluetooth 4.0 LE and 170 mAh battery as the FMB920, in a 65 × 56.6 × 20.6 mm, 55 g case rated IP41 on 10–30 V. This is the tracker for fuel management and for IVMS: driver ID on the 1-Wire, seat-belt or door on a digital input, a buzzer on an output.

FMC150 — the same, over 4G

The FMC150 is the FMB140 with an LTE Cat 1 modem and 2G fallback. Same integrated CAN reading, same 3 in / 2 out / 2 analogue / 1-Wire, same case, same 10–30 V and 170 mAh battery. The variant to specify for Qatar is the one with LTE bands B1/B3/B7/B8/B20/B28, which covers Ooredoo and Vodafone. It costs more than the FMB140 and the day-to-day data is identical, so the argument for it is the network, not the features.

The network question

Qatar’s Communications Regulatory Authority had both operators switch off 3G at the end of 2025 to free spectrum for 4G and 5G. 2G is still running, and 2G trackers still report fine today, but a tracker fitted this year will be on the vehicle for five or more. For vehicles you expect to keep, buses and anything under an IVMS contract, the FMC150 removes the risk of a second visit to every vehicle when 2G follows 3G. For a short-lease or rental fleet that turns over in two years, the FMB920 or FMB140 is the sensible spend.

Which one, in one line each

1. FMB920: Location, trips, ignition, geofences, over-speed, immobiliser. Cars, pickups, vans, rentals. Lowest cost, fastest install.
2. FMB140: Everything above plus CAN-bus fuel and engine data and driver ID. Trucks, buses and any fleet where fuel or IVMS is the point, on a budget.
3. FMC150: The FMB140 on LTE. Long-life vehicles, IVMS contracts, and any fleet buying now for the next five years.
