A Qatar contracting fleet usually splits into two very different kinds of equipment, and that split matters more for tracking than most vendors mention up front. There are vehicles with an engine and alternator — pickups, trucks, mixers — and there is plant and equipment with no ignition to wire into at all: generators, compressors, containers, tower lights. Powered vehicles: the standard fit

This is a different hardware category from vehicle tracking, even though the two end up on the same map and the same platform.
Utilisation is usually the bigger payoff than location
Knowing where a generator is matters, but knowing whether it's actually running — and for how long — is often worth more. Running-hours and idle-time data on hired or owned equipment answers a question a lot of contracting businesses can't currently answer with confidence: what's actually working right now, what's sitting idle on another site, and whether the third unit on hire this month was really necessary when two owned units were parked somewhere unaccounted for.

- Utilisation reporting: Does the platform report running hours and idle time for hired or owned equipment, not just location?
- Reporting interval: For battery units, is the reporting frequency (and battery life) sized to the asset, or fixed regardless of use?
- Site geofencing: Can a geofence be set per site or yard, with after-hours alerts?
- One dashboard: Do vehicles and unpowered equipment show on the same platform, or does managing both mean two logins?
